Jack Johnson

As reported in One Green Planet, Jack Johnson supports several causes concerning the environment, and some of you will be amazed at all he does to make a difference locally and globally.

Jack founded the All At Once Campaign which focuses on a sustainable food source grown locally. What does sustainable food mean? It is all about growing foods locally that supports the locals economically and physically. The key is to avoid the heavy carbon footprint that comes from importing foods and to grow only foods that thrive in its perspective environment. Another aspect entails helping local farmers, in their respective countries, to make and retain a decent living growing food for their entire area. This would be a benefit to the residents as well as the growers because it provides jobs, increases the stability of small farmers and aids in an overall stable economy.

Sustainable food will help prevent over farming that damages natural resources; in turn, the local flora and fauna are protected. These sources provide quality, healthy, plentiful foods that are free from industrial chemicals.

Another special attribute about All At Once is that, according to One Green Planet, it introduced a plastic free food source.

Johnson founded several organizations to help local communities by supporting education regarding music, environment and art. He provides young students lifelong skills in preservation and to help them develop a passion for every aspect of ecology, climate and the environment.

Jack Johnson's pet project are so numerous that there wouldn't be enough space to list them. This man is so busy saving us from our own stupidity that he should be called superman!

Pearl Jam Yes, heavy metal artists rock for the environment, too. They may not be as visible as the hollywood click who loves to be seen doing good, but there are many rock and metal artists that do it because they their reward is by doing and not just to be photographed. This group starts their quest by making changes themselves by ensuring that the carbon footprint of cd shipments are within reason and that there are no harmful chemicals used in their cd production that could harm the workers or the recipients. As reported by Green Planet, Pearl Jam goes as far as making certain that the transport of people, who attend their concerts, is environmentally friendly. They joined several organizations that help with carpooling, buses and other means of transporting groups of people to help avoid polluting the environment. Pearl jam also donated thousands to help prevent the deforestation in Madagascar.

Justin Timberlake He built an ecologically positive golf course, Mirimichi Golf Course, which actually sounds like an oxymoron because one thinks of golf courses full of thirsty green patches gluttonously slurping up tons of water every day.

Green Day It is highly apparent that Green Day takes its band name seriously! As reported by Fuse, Green Day is forging the way to help us sever our unhealthy (economically and ecologically) dependence on petroleum/oil. They teamed up with a great organization called "Move America Beyond Oil" Their voice is loud, literally and physically, when it comes to environmental protection and implementing renewable energy sources.

Jason Mraz Like the aforementioned musicians, Mraz supports organizations who advocate sustainable resources and energy. He is very visible in his backing of organizations move people to go green. Fuse stated that Jason initiated a 2012 summer tour to lend support causes affecting the local environment. The greatest thing about his organizations is that they are non-profit; further, he gets my love because he is not like the other narcissistic, non-productive, selfy taking celebrity because he uses instagram to teach us how to take care of the earth by posting environmentally positive photos. Take a look at his entertaining yet educational instagram photos.

Thom Yorke Yorke is politically active in nudging the UK to pass laws to protect the local environment and to the prevention of global warming. He also does his part by not eating meat which a great contributor to methane gasses destroying the ozone layer. Fuse claimed, his inspiration for the album "Erasure" was attributable to his views on climate change.

Festival (Ok, technically, it's not a person, but it is more than worthy of being on this list.)

Ilosaarirock Festival (is this the biggest, greenest, most consistent festival on the planet?) Laulurinne, Joensuu Address: Linnunlahdentie 3 Joensuu Finland 15th–17th Jul 2016

This mega festival will be home to over 60 bands which is spread out over five large stages. The motto of the festival combines musicians who value environmental protection with their passion for music. The key to their successful festivals since the 1970's the entire festival is made up of volunteers where all profits are divided among support for local bands o whom share a love for the environment. The green supporting musicians are as follows:

The Roots They collaborated with Peta on the Stop the Violence-Goveg Peta campaign as reported by The Rolling Stone magazine in 2010. Their name is not for genetic heritage roots but because roots from plants are the tie to life. Interestingly, according The Rolling Stone, The Roots use compost bins as give-away prizes to devoted fans to inspire them to go green and for environmental awareness overall.

Whew! That was a long list and I still have more favorite environmentally friendly musicians to cite, but I'll save that for my next post.
