Unforgivable Band Breakups

I'm pretty sure most of us had to deal with much loved band members parting ways with each other at some point. I'll never forget the moments I found out a band I liked had split up. Of course I know one almost has to expect a band to break up, or to change one or more band members. The pressure in the industry is huge, and I can imagine it being more than just a challenge to spend most of your time stuck with other members.

Which bands made a final exit to perform no more? Do you know which individual musicians shockingly severed ties with their group? The following band members are broke up, leaving devoted followers broken-hearted with only their dreams of a future reunion to give them solace. Who will you be disappointed in, if they ever leave your favourite group? These are the latest casualties, and they all dubiously claim that their departure is not due to any friction or malcontent.

Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes ...

This is a band I wish I had discovered BEFORE they split up. For some reason I discover many bands after the members had just parted ways with each other. If you're even remotely into anything ranging from post-hardcore to metalcore, I can only recommend to go listen to them! If you like Of Mice & Men, then you know who newest addition Aaron Pauley is; however what you may not know is that he used to be the (amazing) lead vocalist for Jamie's Elsewhere!

This is an amazing band, and another one I wish I had discovered prior to their break up. One of my dear friends with awesome music taste introduced me to these guys, which I shall be grateful for forever. Their self-titled album, released in 2011, is one of my all-time favourites, and has accompanied me through rain and sunshine. Unfortunately the bands ties weren't as strong as expected, and they broke up in 2012, after having only just formed in early 2010. Nevertheless, their music is here to stay and has left an imprint in my heart. D.R.U.G.S' music is labelled as post-hardcore but I would recommend them to anyone who enjoys rock and metal related genres! If you have a spare moment to listen to them, pay attention to the lyrics!

This is a very disappointing break up. I actually discovered this band by chance at a Good Charlotte concert back in Vienna (AUT) during the bands epic 2011 comeback tour ‘Cardiology’. Framing Henley were the support act, and despite never having heard of them before they swept me off of my feet immediately. I can vividly remember having the time of my life during their cover of Lil Wayne’s famous ‘Lollipop, and listening to their song ‘Hear Me Now’ on repeat after the concert. This band had so much potential and beyond loyal fans, but in 2015 released the devastating news of their departure from the music scene.

I believe most 20-something’s couldn’t get around hearing this band’s name. Regardless if you liked them or hated them, they seemed to be omnipresent for years. Interestingly these guys were never one of my favourites (this is surprising because I love a lot of similar bands), that is not to say I didn’t listen to their music! Another band that had an extremely dedicated fan-base, the so-called 'killjoys' (the name is misleading the story behind it worth reading) As it so happens, their fans get along extraordinarily well (without online-wars) with my Thirty Seconds To Mars family 'The Echelon'. Hence, I felt crushed for all those lovely committed followers-I honestly don't know what will happen if my favourite bands ever split up (or even just stop making music due to age)!

I have my wonderful mom to thank for letting me in on their greatness. I remember discovering her R.E.M. band t-shirt from one of their gigs (I know, I have the coolest mom), subsequently declaring it mine, and then proceeding to live in it. Their break-up has been a while ago but it feels like the wound is still fresh. Their music still means a lot to me and every single one of their songs still get me ridiculously emotional. I do acknowledge that they played for 3 decades (!) but how amazing would it be to see these guys live in a festival setting next summer? Exactly.

The White Stripes I don't think I'll ever recover from the shock that dream-team Jack, and wife at the time Meg White parted ways. At least the multi-talented Jack White is far from done with music-he even released solo albums "Blunderbuss" and "Lazaretto", besides still playing in his other side-projects, such as The Dead Weather and The Raconteurs.

Panic! At The Disco - Spencer Smith, drummer of Panic! At The Disco, parted ways with his band. I don’t really listen to Panic! At The Disco any more, but they were a huge part of my life (musically that is) as a teen, which makes this a sentimental one for me.

How do you feel about groups breaking up? If you're happy, sad, relieved, indifferent, perplexed or whatever is on your mind, start a discussion.
